I was hired to build two mobile websites for a plastic manufacturer and this is how it happened. I got a call from a guy named Tom in January 2020 and he asked if I could look at his website. He said he saw my ad. I wasn't what ad he was talking about because I don't have an ad campaign. But it was probably my Facebook business page.
Tom said he had a web developer but he tragically became ill with cancer. It was an unfortunate way to have this opportunity open up for me but I wanted to see if there is anything I could do to help his business with his website. He asked me to take a look at it and see if there is anything that I could do to improve his websites.
When I talk to people that have separated themselves from building their own websites they seem to be more receptive to getting help and making improvements on their websites.
When I checked out his websites the first thing that stood out to me was that it had no mobile design. So when I look at it on my phone I had to pinch and zoom to see it. 10 years ago that would not be a big deal however modern search engines factor in the mobile responsiveness of a website when it comes to ranking the site in the directory.
So when we talked on our scheduled phone call I recommended that he gets a mobile design for his websites. A couple days later we had lunch together and I got a chance to meet him in person and meet his assistant. She agreed with me and recommended Tom does the mobile design.
He said his web guy had recommended that and he's not sure why he hadn't decided to do it until now.
A few days later he sends me an email and agrees to hire me to do the mobile design in February.
So now I have a new website client and hopefully he likes my work and we continue to work together on his websites. I will keep you posted and let you know how I do the mobile website design and how the client likes my work.
Way to go!
